My lover’s shoulder

Yesterday I noticed my lover’s shoulder.
Winter fogged the window behind the drapes, but a warmth created by the room heater(second-hand but in perfect condition)
and two loving bodies engulfed the room. Delicate yellow light from a bed-side shade threw shadows on us
and my eyes
and especially his shoulders.
After watching an episode of Sherlock(Season 3 episode 3 brilliant!) with him,
discussing, dissecting, and laughing about it, with him,
it was the only place I wanted to be in
and no Spy with a voice like Benedict Cumberbatch could have changed that.

In the process of writing this, I have just now google-searched the words ‘shoulder anatomy’
to understand and explain to you exactly
how beautiful did look my lover’s shoulders.
It was neither the most-muscular nor the most-toned shoulder I have seen,
nothing like Daniel Craig in his better days.
But a certain manner in which he held me in those moments,
shone three distinct lines of muscle and sinew in yellow shadows,
that whispered to me about love, care and affection,
and made me wonder at the universe that could make these shoulders possible.
“Ah Science! Ah Universe!”, thought I
and stretched out my arms barely tracing my fingers over them,
too afraid to alter the grace
that is held within the petals of my lover’s shoulders.

I din’t think until now that his shoulders are a different colour from my own.
While his shine like smooth ivory,
mine are more like wood, varying between shades of walnut and chestnut in parts.
But we are happy to push our shoulders together in the darkness of the cinema,
and brush them gently against one another,
unnoticed in the chatter and laughter of social gatherings.
(This specific shoulder of my lover has no moles,
unlike his back whose landscape is scattered with stars,
that are nice to kiss or to play join-the-dots.)

If I was O. Henry or Guy de Maupassant, I would tell you that those shoulders had no arms to end,
or if I was Sir Doyle or Oscar Wilde, my lover would be a spy, a prince or a frog.
But this is not a story and its no such romantic thing.
This is real life and my lover is real person.
with a human heart.
(and beautiful shoulders.)

delhi times

I left something in the hills.

This was during the recent trek in the Himalayas. I left something in the hills there. A little joy, a little love, and came back with a promise to return.
May be when I go back next time, I’ll get some of the weather back. Delhi needs it. and I emphasize, Delhi needs it.

I came back here four days back and although its supposed to be monsoon, I have not even seen a drop of water fall from the sky. Not even a bird has pissed down. Who ever in the first place decided that Delhi was a habitable place when they first started settling man. WHO?!! Its terribly hot and humid here and lately, the irritation level has been so high that getting any closer than 2 cms to even your  best friend can result in a sparta like reaction. You know like this-

“Yea we are fucking meeting after more than 2 months but don’t fucking hug me! and if you step any closer, I’ll shower you with my sweat! It’ll be sparta forevuuur!”

Yougaiz, I hope, are in a better place. Is it raining where you are? Sweet blessed warm showers like Bombay? I am longing for the smell of wet earth.  By the way, did you know that there was a word for that lovely smell- its called petrichor.

Chicago

After having had a pretty sad day, I switched on the television hoping for something to cheer me up.

And there it was! Chicago to the rescue! 🙂

Though I attribute the cheering up to the lovely Chocolate Dutch Truffle I had , the movie  was very much an entertainer! A remake of the 1975 Broadway show, Chicago has a constant flow of drama, music and dance. There is never a loose moment in the movie which can be credited to everything from the plot to the performances and the brilliant execution of it.

The story goes like this. Set in Chicago of the 1920s, Velma Kelly (played by Catherine Zeta Jones) is a vaudevillian, that is, someone who is part of a theatrical variety of entertainment. Gaining popularity she is happy until she finds her husband and sister in bed together and kills both of them in a fit of rage. While she is being tried for the murder , another belle fille aspiring to be a part of vaudeville Roxie Hart(Renee Zellweneger) is jailed for murder.Being married to a colourless man Amos she ‘fools around’ with Fred Casely who promises to take her up the ranks in the business. But soon he tells her that he has no contacts and he just used her.Enraged, Roxie shoots Fred and is taken to the same jail as Velma, awaiting hanging. This is what leads to all the drama.

Enter.Billy Flynn(Richard Gere–wow! :D)  who is the only lawyer who can save them from the gallows. The jail’s matron ‘Mama’ Morton arranges for Billy to take Roxie’s case.He projects her as the sweetest murdress that ever was to the media and Chicago loves her!  Enjoying all the popularity that she always wanted Roxie is at the top of the world taking away the limelight from Velma.

Chicago makes for a comical satire on how the truth is often twisted and gladly accepted if served on a glamorous silver platter and also takes a dig at the celebrity hungry media.

The performances of the the three lead actors is brilliant with them doing all the singing and dancing. The choreography never fails to impress especially in numbers like Cell Block Tango where the other women inmates relate their reason for being jailed. The vocals by Catherine Zeta Jones are remarkably strong. A lot of credit should also be given to the the strong potrayal of the characer of Billy Flynn by Richard Gere.

Kudos to Rob Marshall as director  for  delivering such a powerful, lurid, dark yet comic entertainer. The quick pacing, the editing and the entire execution shows great talent.

Chicago is definitely a movie that has it all…crime, comedy, drama, music, dance and All that Jazz!

Must watch!
